LCD Defect Policy

Displays sold by Motor City Technologies may have cosmetic imperfections that appear as small bright or dark spots. This is common to all panel displays used in products by all vendors and is not specific to any vendor or brand. Below are the acceptable amounts of "dot defects" for LCD displays that we sell as new:

  • Total Defects: 4
  • Bright or Dark Dots (random): 4
  • Bright or Dark Dots (2 adjacent): 2
  • Bright or Dark Dots (3 adjacent): 0
  • Minimum distance between defects: 15mm (bright to bright dots)
  • Minimum distance between defects: 5mm (dark to dark dots)

Lilliput's Dead Pixel Guarantee typically will not apply to any Lilliput display Motor City Technologies sells. This is due to the fact that the monitor is opened for modification. This voids the factory warranty, including their No Dead Pixel Guarantee.

NEC and other manufacturers have their own policies regarding dead pixels or “dot defects”. These manufacturer policies are usually less stringent than Motor City Technologies’ policy. Typically, Motor City Technologies will not use a panel or display for touch conversion if the LCD has defects above our own policy.

We strive to ensure that the displays we stock adhere to the ISO 13406-2 standard, but due to current LCD manufacturing procedures it is not yet possible to guarantee that our displays will not come without dead pixels. Therefore, if you have received a display with a dead pixel(s), we are unfortunately unable to replace it. This applies to all sized displays over 3.5 inches diagonal.

Displays with 4+ “dot defects” are usually not sold as new. Working panels with excessive “dot defects” are sold under our Clearance section and carry no warranty beyond DOA.
